The Story: Virgin Forest

The forest had always been alive. It breathed through its ancient trees, carried water through its roots, sheltered animals, and reached toward the endless sky.

For generations, the forest gave freely. Then the machines arrived.

Men came with maps and contracts, seeing trees as timber and land as money. One by one, the ancient trees fell. Roads cut through the wilderness, animals disappeared, and the rivers began to suffer.

A young woman named Mara stood beneath the remaining trees and looked toward the sky.

"I am the forest. You are the sky."

She wondered how something so beautiful could be destroyed for profit.

"Would you cut me, forsake me, trade me for money—and watch me die?"

Mara refused to remain silent. She gathered people from her community, and together they stood for the forest. They planted new trees where the old ones had fallen and reminded others that the earth was not something to own—it was something to protect.

Years later, the forest began to return.

Young trees reached toward the sky. Birds came back. The rivers cleared. Life returned to the wounded earth.

Mara placed her hand upon a new tree and smiled.

The forest had survived.

And its message remained:

What we love, we must protect.
What gives us life, we must never destroy for profit.
