Make a Deal

The Story:

In the half-shadow of a room lit only by dying candles, two strangers sat facing each other on opposite ends of a cracked wooden stool.  One wore white linen, the other black silk. Between them hung silence thick as smoke.

The poem appeared on the wall behind them.  Black bleeding into white, white bleeding into black, like a mirror cracked down the middle.

"Come sit with us, lovers," the words whispered.  "We know how you feel." "Don't worry about the others who refuse to heal."

The man in white reached first, palm open.  The woman in black hesitated, then placed her hand in his. No words passed.  Only the quiet agreement of two hearts tired of bleeding alone.

Somewhere in the dark a deal was made,not with promises, not with rings, but with the simple, painful permission to be seen.  To heal.  To sit together in the split light and let the fracture become whole.
